The Humane Society of Tulsa has launched efforts to determine the number of missing pets in Barnsdall, alongside providing care for those already found.
Volunteers, led by the Humane Society of Tulsa, are combing through neighborhoods devastated by the tornado, including Emma Ward, who tirelessly navigates through mud and debris in search of lost pets.
Door-to-door searches aim to alleviate concerns for residents already burdened with numerous worries.
“Residents are grappling with the safety of their families, housing arrangements, and the loss of their possessions,” Emma explained. “We want to alleviate concerns about caring for their pets amidst these challenges.”
In response to the urgent need, Emma and fellow volunteers loaded their van with available supplies, recognizing the immediate demand for assistance in Barnsdall.
However, acknowledging the ongoing needs, Emma emphasized the community’s generosity, which enabled them to mobilize a transport trailer into an emergency animal shelter.
As families in Barnsdall navigate their next steps, the Humane Society ensures that their beloved pets receive proper care and attention.
While many animals remain displaced, the focus remains on locating and reuniting them with their owners, allowing residents to concentrate on the recovery process.
Emma praised the resilience of Barnsdall’s residents, emphasizing the importance of supporting them during this challenging time.
“If providing assistance brings peace and facilitates reunification, that’s where our efforts are best directed,” Emma affirmed, highlighting the organization’s commitment to aiding the community in their time of need.
